LA VALLÉE DE L’ÉTRANGE//THE UNCANNEY VALLEY
WORKSHOP INTERNAZIONALE CON KOLLECTIF HORS ZONE
Una settimana di esplorazione intorno a questo tema dell “uncunney valley”, (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley) raramente affrontato perché la veridicità della ricerca è ancora troppo ambivalente, troppo pseudo-scientifica. Tuttavia, dal punto di vista artistico, questo tema offre spunti di riflessione sulla performance, sul nostro rapporto con il teatro, con la realtà e con noi stessi. Questa teoria ci porta nelle profondità dell’antropomorfismo, ciò che ci è vicino ma che non è noi, che ci rimanda al dubbio sulla nostra stessa esistenza.
Il dubbio tra il vivente e il non vivente, l’immobile e il mobile.
Quello che ci fa dubitare della realtà. L’in-between che a volte si rivela nelle performance, nelle installazioni e nel nostro rapporto con i social network e internet. Il confine tra finzione e realtà è uno spazio che si allarga e diventa una realtà a sé stante.
La settimana è divisa in tre parti: il primo giorno a tavolino, discussione sul tema, ricerca teorica e accumulo di materiale.
Seguiranno tre o quattro giorni in cui il tema sarà affrontato in tre modi diversi ma complementari:
– In scena con Irem Tasdan, il rapporto con il linguaggio del corpo, attraverso esplorazioni performative ed esercizi fisici e di improvvisazione intorno al “bug”.
– Lavorando con Noémie Roturier, l’installazione visiva e plastica esplora gli “spazi liminali”, spazi che rappresentano una sensazione di “in-between”, catturando luoghi di transizione, impersonali, inquietanti e privi di persone. L’estetica può trasmettere stati d’animo di stranezza, surrealismo, nostalgia o tristezza, e suscitare risposte sia di conforto che di disagio, in quanto estremamente familiari e allo stesso tempo portatori di stranezza. Esploreremo la scultura, l’installazione e la fotografia.
– Video, immagini e proiezioni con Juan Pablo de la Rosa, designer di effetti speciali. Esploreremo reti, creepypastas, leggende di internet e realtà virtuale attraverso la creazione di video.
I tre temi sono collegati, quindi l’idea per la parte finale del workshop, che durerà uno o due giorni, è di occupare uno spazio abbandonato vicino ai luoghi del festival per creare un lavoro plastico, visivo, performativo e sonoro su questo tema. Si tratta di un progetto di ricerca in perpetuo movimento, senza una forma definitiva. La performance è quindi una tappa di queste riflessioni e il suo scopo è quello di continuare l’esplorazione attraverso spazi diversi, luoghi di ricerca e performance.
E’ il primo capitolo di questa ricerca, che dà forma concreta alle riflessioni dei tre artisti sopra citati.
Il workshop si può tenere in lingua inglese o francese a seconda delle competenze dei partecipanti. È possibile se necessario avere una traduzione simultanea in lingua italiana.
KHZ
Kollectif Hors Zone è stato creato nel giugno 2021 da Marianne Adjagba, Axelle Paris, Gabriele Paupini, Noémie Roturier e Irem Tasdan, cinque artisti emergenti che si sono incontrati al crocevia delle arti dal vivo. Impegnato nel teatro contemporaneo e musicale, nella performance e nell’intermedialità, il Kollectif è composto da individui di diversa provenienza e percorsi di vita. Attinge al potenziale e all’esperienza di ciascun membro per alimentare i suoi progetti con questa diversità, stringendo legami artistici e professionali sia all’interno che all’esterno della Francia. Kollectif si impegna a esplorare nuovi modi di collaborare e a creare legami tra individui, basandosi su una cooperazione orizzontale che incoraggia la messa in comune delle competenze.
Irem Tasdan – Nata in un ambiente musicale, ha studiato pianoforte classico al Conservatorio di Stato dell’Università di Istanbul. In seguito si è dedicata alla video e alla performance art e ha proseguito gli studi in Francia, prima con la Licence Arts du spectacle e poi con il Master Création Spectacle Vivant. Ha diretto per tre anni la compagnia OKM di Istanbul e ha partecipato al progetto video IREM di Eylül Çekiç, selezionato nel 2020 per il Mamut Art Project di Istanbul. Ha presentato la mostra fotografica Shirdan Blues al festival OAT dell’Università Paul-Valéry e ha diretto due mini-documentari: Richard III per il laboratorio Etre et Jouer diretto da Laurent Berger e I fratelli Veber per il festival Quartieri dell’Arte di Viterbo (Roma). È coinvolta in diversi progetti sperimentali che combinano teatro, performance e video; è anche attrice della compagnia di Montpellier La Plaidoirie nel progetto Je me méfie toujours de la vérité.
Noémie Roturier – Con un background nelle arti visive e performative, ha conseguito una laurea in Arti performative presso l’Università di Strasburgo e un Master in Creazione di spettacoli dal vivo presso l’Università di Montpellier, con una tesi sulla questione della traduzione e della creazione internazionale attraverso l’esempio del teatro Maori. Nel 2016 ha creato l’installazione permanente REFLEXIONS sul percorso artistico di Giffre in Alta Savoia. Tra la creazione di specchi e la musica sperimentale, la danza e il tatuaggio, l’Alta Savoia e la Nuova Zelanda, alterna esperienze e ricerche in varie discipline per ampliare il suo spettro artistico. La sua pratica spazia dall’installazione plastica e video alla drag performance: membro associato di Projet Secret, collettivo di dragking/queen/fuck di Montpellier dal 2022, e artista associato della compagnia Faiseurs de Rien dal 2021. Dal 2022 lavora come scenografa nello spettacolo ARCANES della compagnia Krasna di Marsiglia. Sta lavorando a un road movie drag in collaborazione con Baptiste Moreau aka Isabelle Bush per il 2025.
Juan Pablo De La Rosa – Artista multidisciplinare 3D con sede a Montpellier, specializzato in effetti visivi per mezzi di animazione 3D. Nato in Colombia nel 1994, si è trasferito in Francia nel 2012 per proseguire gli studi di animazione al computer. Ha conseguito la laurea in grafica 2D/3D nel 2016 e successivamente il master in effetti visivi nel 2018, entrambi presso la scuola di cinema d’animazione MoPA di Arles (FR). Da allora ha lavorato in diverse produzioni di animazione, sia per la Francia che per il pubblico internazionale, la maggior parte delle quali sono creazioni originali Netflix. Tra i suoi numerosi impegni, dal 2021 collabora costantemente con il collettivo artistico Kollectif Hors Zone per la creazione di media visivi; in particolare ha sviluppato le proiezioni video per lo spettacolo “It’s a DreamWorld” presentato al Romaeuropa Festival nel 2023. Attualmente è entrato a far parte dello studio di Tolosa TAT Productions nel 2023 come responsabile degli effetti speciali per il prossimo lungometraggio dello studio.

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP WITH KHZ
A week of exploration around this theme, ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley) which is rarely tackled because the research is still too ambivalent, too pseudo-scientific. Nonetheless, artistically, this theme provides food for thought about performance, our relationship with the theatre, with reality and with ourselves. This theory takes us into the depths of anthropomorphism, which is close to us but which is not us, which sends us back into doubt about our own existence.
The doubt between the living and the non-living, the immobile and the mobile.
That which makes us doubt reality. The in-between that is sometimes revealed in performance, in installation and in our relationship with social networks and the internet. The boundary between fiction and reality is a space that widens and becomes a reality in its own.
The week would be divided into three parts, the first day at the table, discussion around the theme, theoretical research and accumulation of material.
This would be followed by three or four days where the subject would be tackled in three different but complementary ways:
– On stage with Irem Tasdan, the relationship with body language, through performative explorations and physical and improvisational exercises around the ‘bug’.
– Working with Noémie Roturier, the visual and plastic installation explores ‘liminal spaces’, spaces that represent a feeling of ‘in-between’, capturing places of transition, impersonal, unsettling and devoid of people. The aesthetic can convey moods of strangeness, surrealism, nostalgia or sadness, and elicit responses of both comfort and unease, as extremely familiar and at the same time bearers of strangeness. We will be exploring sculpture, installation and photography.
– Video, image and projection with Juan Pablo de la Rosa, special effect designer. Exploring networks, creepypastas, internet legends and virtual reality through video creation.
The three themes are linked, so the idea for the final part of the workshop, which will last one or two days, is to come and occupy an abandoned space near the festival’s locations to create a plastic, visual, performative and sound work on this theme. It’s a research project in perpetual motion, with no definitive form. The performance would therefore be a stage in these reflections, and its purpose is to continue the exploration through different spaces, places of research and performance.
This would be the first chapter of this research, giving concrete form to the reflections of the three artists mentioned above.
KHZ
Kollectif Hors Zone was created in June 2021 by Marianne Adjagba, Axelle Paris, Gabriele Paupini, Noémie Roturier and Irem Tasdan, five emerging artists who met at the crossroads of the living arts. Committed to contemporary and musical theater, performance and intermediality, Kollectif is made up of individuals from different backgrounds and walks of life. It draws on the potential and experience of each member to nourish its projects with this diversity, forging artistic and professional links both inside and outside France. Kollectif is committed to exploring new ways of collaborating and forging links between individuals, based on horizontal cooperation that encourages the pooling of skills.
Irem Tasdan – Born into a musical background, she studied classical piano at the State Conservatory of Istanbul University. She then turned her attention to video and performance art, and pursued her studies in France, first in the Licence Arts du spectacle, then in the Master Création Spectacle Vivant. She previously directed the Istanbul-based OKM company for three years and participated in Eylül Çekiç’s video project IREM, selected in 2020 for the Mamut Art Project in Istanbul. She presented the photographic exhibition Shirdan Blues at the Université Paul-Valéry’s OAT festival, and also directed two mini-documentaries: Richard III for the Etre et Jouer workshop directed by Laurent Berger, and I fratelli Veber for the Quartieri dell’Arte festival in Viterbo (Rome). She is involved in a number of experimental projects combining theater, performance and video; she is also an actress in the Montpellier company La Plaidoirie on the project Je me méfie toujours de la vérité.
Noémie Roturier – With a background in the visual and performance arts, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts from the University of Strasbourg and a Master’s degree in Live Performance Creation from the University of Montpellier, with a thesis on the question of translation and international creation through the example of Maori theater. In 2016, she created the permanent installation REFLEXIONS on the Giffre art trail in Haute-Savoie. Between mirror-making and experimental music, dance and tattooing, Haute-Savoie and New Zealand, she alternates experiences and research in various disciplines to broaden her artistic spectrum. Her practice ranges from plastic and video installation to drag performance: associate member of Projet Secret, a dragking/queen/fuck collective in Montpellier since 2022, and associate artist with the Faiseurs de Rien company since 2021. Since 2022, she has been working as set designer on the ARCANES show by the Krasna company in Marseille. She is working on a road movie drag in partnership with Baptiste Moreau aka Isabelle Bush for 2025.
Juan Pablo De La Rosa – Multidisciplinary 3D artist based in Montpellier who specializes in visual effects for 3D animation media. Born in Colombia in 1994, he moved to France in 2012 to pursue studies in computer animation. He earned his bachelor degree on 2D/3D graphics in 2016, and later his master degree on visual effects in 2018; both from the animation film school MoPA located in Arles (FR). He has worked in several animation productions ever since, both for France as well as for international audiences, most of them Netflix original creations. Upon his many endeavours, since 2021 he constantly collaborates with the artistic collective Kollectif Hors Zone for the creation of visual media; he most notably developed the video projections for the show “It’s a DramWorld” presented in the Romaeuropa Festival in 2023. Currently, he joined the Toulouse-based studio TAT Productions in 2023 as special effects manager for the studio’s next feature film.

Une semaine d’exploration autour de ce thème, (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vall%C3%A9e_de_l%27%C3%A9trange) qui est un thème peu abordé car la véracité des recherches est encore trop ambivalente, trop pseudo scientifique. Néanmoins, artistiquement, ce thème apporte des pistes de réflexion sur la performance, notre rapport au théâtre, au réel et à soi-même. Cette théorie nous emmène dans les tréfonds de l’anthropomorphisme, ce qui est proche de nous mais qui n’est pas nous qui nous renvoie au doute de notre propre existence.
Le doute entre le vivant et le non vivant, l’immobile et le mobile.
Ce qui nous fait douter de la réalité. Cet entre-deux qui parfois se révèle dans la performance, dans l’installation et dans notre rapport aux réseaux sociaux et à internet. La limite entre la fiction et le réel est un espace qui se creuse, et qui devient une réalité à part entière.
La semaine se diviserait en trois partie, une première journée à la table, discussion autour de ce thème, recherche théorique et accumulation de matière.
À partir de cette journée, trois ou quatre journées où le sujet est abordé trois manières différentes mais qui se complètent :
– Au plateau avec Irem Tasdan, le rapport au body language, à travers des explorations performatives et des exercices physiques et d’improvisation autour du “bug”.
– Autour de l’installation visuelle et plastique, avec Noémie Roturier, la réflexion autour des “liminal spaces”, ces espaces représentant ce sentiment « d’entre-deux », capturant des lieux de transition, impersonnels, troublants et dépourvus de personnes. L’esthétique peut transmettre des ambiances d’étrangeté, de surréalisme, de nostalgie ou de tristesse, et susciter des réponses à la fois de confort et de malaise, car extrêmement familier et à la fois porteur d’étrangeté. L’exploration passera par la sculpture, l’installation, la photo.
– Autour de la vidéo, de l’image et de la projection avec Juan Pablo de la Rosa, special effect designer. L’exploration sur les réseaux, les creepypasta, les légendes d’internet et la réalité virtuelle à travers la création de vidéo.
Les trois pôles sont liés, et l’idée serait donc pour la dernière partie du workshop sur une ou deux journées, de venir occuper un espace abandonné près du festival afin de créer une restitution plastique, visuelle, performative et sonore sur ce thème. C’est une recherche en perpétuel mouvement, qui n’a pas de forme destinée à être définitive. La restitution serait donc une étape de ces réflexions, et a pour vocation de continuer l’exploration à travers différents espaces, lieux de recherche et de représentation.
Ce serait ici le premier chapitre de cette recherche, qui concrétise les réflexions des trois artistes mentionnés ci-dessus.
KHZ
Kollectif Hors Zone a été créé en juin 2021 par Marianne Adjagba, Axelle Paris, Gabriele Paupini, Noémie Roturier et Irem Tasdan, cinq artistes émergents qui se sont rencontrés à la croisée des arts vivants. Engagé dans le théâtre contemporain et musical, la performance et l’intermédialité, Kollectif est composé d’individus d’horizons et de milieux différents. Il s’appuie sur le potentiel et l’expérience de chacun pour nourrir ses projets de cette diversité, en tissant des liens artistiques et professionnels en France et à l’étranger. Kollectif s’attache à explorer de nouveaux modes de collaboration et à tisser des liens entre les individus, en s’appuyant sur une coopération horizontale qui favorise la mise en commun des compétences.
Irem Tasdan – Née dans un milieu musical, elle a étudié le piano classique au Conservatoire d’État de l’Université d’Istanbul. Elle s’est ensuite intéressée à la vidéo et à la performance et a poursuivi ses études en France, d’abord en licence Arts du spectacle, puis en master Création Spectacle Vivant. Elle a dirigé pendant trois ans la compagnie OKM, basée à Istanbul, et a participé au projet vidéo IREM d’Eylül Çekiç, sélectionné en 2020 pour le Mamut Art Project à Istanbul. Elle a présenté l’exposition photographique Shirdan Blues au festival OAT de l’Université Paul-Valéry, et a également réalisé deux mini-documentaires : Richard III pour l’atelier Etre et Jouer dirigé par Laurent Berger, et I fratelli Veber pour le festival Quartieri dell’Arte à Viterbo (Rome). Elle participe à plusieurs projets expérimentaux mêlant théâtre, performance et vidéo ; elle est également comédienne au sein de la compagnie montpelliéraine La Plaidoirie sur le projet Je me méfie toujours de la vérité.
Noémie Roturier – Issue des arts visuels et de la performance, elle est titulaire d’une licence en arts du spectacle de l’Université de Strasbourg et d’un master en création de spectacle vivant de l’Université de Montpellier, avec un mémoire sur la question de la traduction et de la création internationale à travers l’exemple du théâtre maori. En 2016, elle crée l’installation permanente REFLEXIONS sur le parcours artistique du Giffre en Haute-Savoie. Entre miroiterie et musique expérimentale, danse et tatouage, Haute-Savoie et Nouvelle-Zélande, elle alterne expériences et recherches dans diverses disciplines pour élargir son spectre artistique. Sa pratique s’étend de l’installation plastique et vidéo à la performance draguée : membre associée du Projet Secret, collectif dragueur/reine/baiseuse à Montpellier depuis 2022, et artiste associée à la compagnie Faiseurs de Rien depuis 2021. Depuis 2022, elle travaille comme scénographe sur le spectacle ARCANES de la compagnie Krasna à Marseille. Elle travaille sur un road movie drag en partenariat avec Baptiste Moreau alias Isabelle Bush pour 2025.
Juan Pablo De La Rosa – Artiste 3D multidisciplinaire basé à Montpellier qui se spécialise dans les effets visuels pour les médias d’animation 3D. Né en Colombie en 1994, il s’est installé en France en 2012 pour poursuivre des études en animation par ordinateur. Il a obtenu sa licence en graphisme 2D/3D en 2016, puis son master en effets visuels en 2018, tous deux à l’école de cinéma d’animation MoPA située à Arles (FR). Depuis, il a travaillé sur plusieurs productions d’animation, tant pour la France que pour le public international, la plupart d’entre elles étant des créations originales de Netflix. Depuis 2021, il collabore constamment avec le collectif artistique Kollectif Hors Zone pour la création de médias visuels ; il a notamment développé les projections vidéo pour le spectacle « It’s a DramWorld » présenté dans le cadre du festival Romaeuropa en 2023.
Actuellement, il a rejoint le studio toulousain TAT Productions en 2023 en tant que responsable des effets spéciaux pour le prochain long métrage du studio.
